Insero Talent Solutions has partnered with a manufacturing company in Rochester, NY on their search for a Buyer/Planner.

Position Summary

The Buyer/Planner for is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and planning the supply of metal parts, assemblies and components required for production. This role ensures timely procurement and optimal inventory levels to support manufacturing schedules while maintaining cost efficiency and quality standards. The Buyer/Planner works closely with suppliers, engineering, production, and quality teams to meet company objectives and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement: Source, negotiate, and purchase components from qualified suppliers, ensuring adherence to specifications, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Planning: Develop and maintain production and inventory plans to meet manufacturing demands and minimize stockouts or excess inventory.
  • Supplier Management: Evaluate and select suppliers, monitor performance, and cultivate strong relationships to ensure reliable supply and continuous improvement.
  • Order Management: Issue purchase orders, track order status, and expedite deliveries as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Cost Control: Analyze costs, negotiate pricing, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve issues, support inspections, and ensure that all purchased components meet required standards.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, supplier performance, and inventory levels using ERP and reporting systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement process improvements in purchasing and planning practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in procurement, planning, or supply chain roles—preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and PowerBI a plus.
