Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Cook/Chef to join our Early Learning Child Care Center. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing fresh, healthy, and nutritious meals for children, adhering to high standards of cleanliness, time management, and food quality. This individual will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving balanced meals in accordance with our center’s food policy while creating a positive and enjoyable mealtime experience for children and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
● Plan and prepare fresh, healthy, and balanced meals using scratch cooking methods, ensuring the nutritional needs of children are met.
● Follow dietary guidelines and center policies for food allergies, special dietary restrictions, and cultural preferences.
● Manage the kitchen and meal preparation schedule efficiently to ensure timely and consistent delivery of meals.
● Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment, adhering to all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
● Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation to maintain the quality and freshness of ingredients.
● Prepare and serve meals according to portion control guidelines, ensuring meals are served at the correct temperature and in an appealing manner.
● Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, ordering and restocking as needed while minimizing waste.
● Collaborate with the center staff to accommodate special dietary needs or preferences, including vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-sensitive meals.
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including meal planning, food purchases, and food safety logs.
● Assist in menu planning, taking into account seasonality, food trends, and children's preferences to keep meals exciting and nutritious.
● Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly, ensuring compliance with local health regulations.
● Follow all safety protocols in the kitchen to prevent accidents and injuries.
● Foster a positive and welcoming mealtime atmosphere for children, staff, and guests, promoting healthy eating habits and behaviors.
● Engage in regular professional development to stay current with best practices in child nutrition and kitchen management.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent (culinary training or a degree in nutrition is a plus).
● Proven experience in cooking or preparing meals in a professional kitchen, preferably in a childcare or school environment.
● Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and sanitation standards.
● Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing time effectively to meet meal service deadlines.
● Experience with food allergies and dietary restrictions and the ability to create meals that accommodate various needs.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
● Friendly, patient, and approachable with an understanding of children’s needs and a commitment to providing a positive mealtime experience.
● Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
● CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and carrying food items.
● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
● Ability to work in a warm kitchen environment
