Base Pay: $18.34 - $25.68 / Hour

ABOUT THE POSITION

This position works as part of a flexible team to construct crates and package fine arts in an industrial environment to meet shipping deadlines. General qualifications for this position include knowledge and experience in carpentry, woodworking, material handling, packing, crating, and installation of artwork.



Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Carpentry/Crate Construction

  • Construct a variety of custom pallets, plywood boxes, crate panels and bases using various equipment and carpentry techniques
  • Safely operate and maintain knowledge of basic carpentry tools including wood cutting saws, drills, routers, and sanders
  • Assist in assembling custom, reinforced cardboard boxes for shipping artwork and hardware
  • Apply padding to artwork support bracing and occasionally weatherproof using heat shrink plastic
  • Prep steel for shipping by removing burrs, rust and oil

Art Handling/Equipment Operation

  • Assist in the de-installation of completed artworks following established procedures
  • Assist in the safe moving of custom artworks using a fork truck or other lifting devices, follow safe rigging procedures and document safe lifting techniques
  • Under general supervision, handle and package artworks in accordance with the materials/finishes. In time, develop an understanding of finishes such as: patinated and painted bronze, mirror polished stainless steel, gold and palladium leaf, natural and finished hardwoods, resin, and other custom materials.
  • Operate large equipment including various lifts (forklift, boom lift, telehandler, etc.), trailers, and a box truck

Other

  • Assist in the inspection artwork for imperfections/inconsistencies
  • Paint, weigh, label, and stamp crates pallets, and boxes in accordance with domestic and international shipping standards
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment; on occasion may assist with facility maintenance and improvement projects
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including wearing required PPE and keeping safety as a key element when performing basic job functions
  • Practice good housekeeping, maintain a safe and tidy work area
  • Other duties as assigned
