Job Description

Overview:

An exciting opportunity to join the Pure Aluminum team at our new Greenfield secondary aluminum smelter located near Grand Rapids, Michigan. This management role will oversee sourcing, negotiating, setting pricing and securing scrap metal from industrial, commercial, and dealer sources. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of non-ferrous materials, excellent negotiation skills, and a solid network within the recycling or manufacturing sectors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of buyers
  • Setting daily buy prices
  • Identify and acquire scrap metal from a variety of sources including manufacturers, scrap yards, and industrial accounts.
  • Coordinate the scrap purchasing requirements with sales and operations
  • Evaluate to ensure competitive purchasing.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms of purchase agreements to ensure profitability and supply consistency.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with current suppliers while identifying new supplier opportunities.
  • Monitor market trends and commodity pricing to make informed buying decisions.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure efficient pickup, delivery, and processing.
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions, contracts, and supplier data.
  • Visit supplier sites on a regular basis to assess material and strengthen relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and internal safety standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of purchasing nonferrous scrap metals, specifically aluminum
  • Established book of supplier contacts and relationships

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in scrap metal purchasing
  • Strong knowledge of non-ferrous scrap metal needed to produce secondary aluminum, wrought alloys, aluminum deox and plate material
  • Strong management skills
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency using and inputting data into the computer
  • Ability to travel for site visits and supplier meetings.
  • Willingness to relocate
