The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an energetic candidate to serve as the Office Assistant in the Mailroom at at Jacksonville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills and enjoy seeing tasks through from start to finish. We encourage all qualified

1. Processes and distributes all incoming and outgoing inmate and staff mail.
2. Processes all outgoing individual in custody mail according to the US Postal Service Regulations.
3. Maintains permanent records for the individuals in custody incoming mail concerning monies received.
4. Distributes mail of individuals in custody who have been discharged, paroled, or transferred.
5. Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
2. Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
3. Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 wpm.
1. This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
4. Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer .
