Job Description

The Change-Out Installation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, staffing, execution, and closeout of all HVAC retrofit change-out projects. This leader will manage multiple crews across active job sites, coordinate with project managers and property staff, and ensure field operations meet standards of safety, quality, and timeliness. This role is both operational and hands-on, requiring deep field experience and strong team leadership.

Field Operations Oversight

• Manage daily operations for multiple change-out crews across multifamily properties
• Ensure proper manpower scheduling to meet production timelines
• Verify all installations are performed to local code standards
• Conduct quality control inspections on completed and in-progress units
• Resolve field issues related to layout conflicts, missing materials, or access limitations

Project Planning & Execution

• Coordinate with project managers and property managers for unit access and scheduling
• Review scope of work and ensure crews are fully briefed before deployment
• Oversee staging and delivery of equipment, tools, and materials to each job site
• Track project milestones, unit completions, and change orders
• Ensure crews follow change-out process (no brazing, use of compression fittings, etc.)

Team Leadership & Personnel Management

• Supervise lead installers, technicians, and apprentices across multiple projects
• Conduct weekly toolbox talks and enforce jobsite safety protocols
• Support training and development of install teams, including quality standards and documentation
• Manage labor efficiency and enforce accountability on jobsite performance
• Recruit and onboard new field personnel as needed to meet schedule demands

Communication & Reporting

• Maintain daily communication with foremen and project leads
• Report jobsite progress and field issues to Director of Operations and PM team
• Submit weekly performance reports, labor tracking, and completion logs
• Work closely with warehouse and procurement to prevent material delays

Standards, Safety & Compliance

• Enforce OSHA compliance, safety standards, and proper PPE usage
• Audit field practices to ensure line set sealing, float switch placement, pressure/vac testing, and refrigerant charging are executed correctly
• Approve unit turnover based on pass/fail inspection criteria
• Lead safety incident reviews and ensure corrective actions are implemented
