Lab Technician 2 - Job Description Location: Austin, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Compensation Range: $22-25/hour

Problems You'll Solve AU680 Reagent validation: Be responsible for method validation projects for new reagent validations for the AU680. You will create methods for running reagents on the AU680 and validate them using external reference material and remnant patient samples.
Independent Testing Execution: Run complex RT-PCR, chemistry, and immunoassay workflows independently while maintaining 99%+ accuracy and meeting <24 hour turnaround commitments for clinical samples.
Inventory Management: Manage specimen storage and assist with lab inventory tracking to prevent stockouts.
Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve instrument issues and optimize testing protocols to minimize downtime and maintain consistent daily processing of 80-150 samples.
What You'll Do Independent Testing Operations (70%)
- Validate new methods on the AU680. Troubleshoot and present data in easy to ready format.
- Run RT-PCR testing for infectious disease panels including UTI, STI, and respiratory assays
- Execute chemistry and immunoassay testing on automated analyzers independently
- Analyze test results and perform quality control checks before release
- Process urgent samples requiring expedited turnaround times
- Manage daily workflow prioritization and sample batching for efficiency
Inventory & Specimen Management (10%)
- Manage specimen storage including proper labeling, tracking, and disposal
- Assist with laboratory inventory management and supply ordering
- Maintain chain of custody documentation for regulatory compliance
- Coordinate sample logistics with mobile phlebotomists and clinic partners
Technical Support & Troubleshooting (20%)
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and perform corrective maintenance independently
- Assist in training new staff on laboratory procedures and safety protocols
- Assist junior technicians with complex procedures and problem-solving
- Optimize testing protocols to improve efficiency and reduce errors
- Support equipment validation and calibration activities
What You Bring Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related field
- 1-3 years clinical laboratory experience with chemistry and molecular testing
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with the Beckman Coulter AU series chemistry instruments
- Experience with RT-PCR, immunoassays, and automated chemistry analyzers
- Knowledge of CLIA regulations and laboratory quality systems
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with the Beckman Coulter AU series chemistry instruments
- Experience troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation independently
- Strong analytical skills for result interpretation and quality assessment
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems and data management
- Valid Texas driver's license
