JOB DESCRIPTION: LABORER

Laborer performs unskilled work as directed by his/her supervisor. Work will include all types of loading and unloading cars, trucks, barges, stacking material, excavating, filling in, moving simple types and sizes of machinery, general cleanup work such as sweeping, mopping, washing windows and the tearing down and dismantling of various types of buildings using various machines and tools. Laborer smoothes wooden and plaster surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, and other sanding machines. Laborer prepares wood, fiberglass, and metal surfaces for painting, paint parts, equipment, interiors, and exteriors of ships, boats, and marina buildings, using brushes, spray guns, and rollers. Laborer may have to do some ground keeping work.

Essential Functions:

The individual assigned to this position must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to perform the following essential function:

Enter and work in internally confined spaces.

Manipulate and transport loads up to 75 pounds over distances of up to 200 feet approximate1y 20 times during each 8-hour shift.

Manipulate and operate all machines and tools essential to the performance of the position of laborer such as:

• Pumps
• Scrapers
• Bobcat
• Paint brush
• Shovel
• Spray Guns
• Grinders
• Rollers
• Brooms
• Forklift
• Cutting torch

Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights; negotiate uneven heights between dock and vessels; and negotiate uneven surfaces.

Ascend and work at heights of up to 40 feet.

Bending and stooping while manipulating various sizes and weights approximately 30-40 times during an 8-hour shift.

Ascend and descend on ladders entering/exiting cargo barges approximately 10 to 12 times per 8-hour shift.

Other Functions:

Enter round manholes with inside diameter of l8 inches.

Comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets

Comprehend and follow confined space policies.

Any other duties as directed by management.
