Mortgage Loan Underwriter
Join a dynamic and fast-growing national lender as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter! We're seeking a motivated individual to become an essential part of our team. In this role, you'll use established Conventional, Jumbo, and Government underwriting guidelines to evaluate borrower financial and credit information alongside property valuations, helping to inform sound lending decisions. You'll collaborate closely with our production team to ensure loans move smoothly through the process and reach closing.
Location Flexibility: This position offers the flexibility to work from a local office or remotely, depending on your preference.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and make decisions on agency conforming, jumbo, FHA, and VA residential mortgage loans.
- Thoroughly verify and analyze all necessary financial information and documentation, ensuring loan files include all required credit and legal documents.
- Review appraisal reports and resolve any discrepancies to ensure accuracy.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of applicant income, expenses, asset documentation, credit reports, and property valuations to confirm borrower qualifications.
- Accurately calculate qualifying ratios, assess creditworthiness, and provide informed risk opinions.
Qualifications:
- Experience underwriting VA, FHA, Conventional, and Jumbo loans.
- A minimum of 4 years of underwriting experience is required.
- Experience with FNMA, FHLMC, and Non-Conforming mortgages is a strong plus.
- Proficient in using Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA).
- Solid understanding of the mortgage lending process, including performing necessary loan calculations (DTI, LTV, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
