Job Description

Position Summary:

The School Occupational Therapist (OT) provides specialized services to support students' ability to participate in and benefit from their educational program. The OT evaluates students' functional performance, develops intervention plans, and collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to enhance students' physical, sensory, and cognitive development.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, and other areas related to educational performance.
  • Utilize standardized tests, clinical observations, and functional assessments to determine students' needs.
  • Develop detailed reports summarizing assessment results and recommendations for intervention.

Intervention and Treatment:

  • Develop individualized education programs (IEPs) and treatment plans based on students' specific needs.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy services to students in individual and group settings.
  • Implement therapeutic activities and exercises to improve students' fine motor skills, coordination, sensory processing, and daily living skills.
  • Adapt and modify tasks and environments to support students' participation and independence.

Collaboration and Consultation:

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students' functional needs in the classroom.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and staff on strategies to enhance students' motor skills and sensory processing within the educational setting.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education and related services.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in the field of occupational therapy.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and attend relevant workshops and conferences.
  • Maintain licensure and certification requirements as mandated by state and professional organizations.

Prevention and Education:

  • Develop and implement programs to promote motor and sensory development and prevent potential disabilities.
  • Educate students, staff, and parents about the role of occupational therapy and strategies to support development.
  • Promote awareness of occupational therapy services and resources available within the school and community.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

Certification:

  • Valid Colorado state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
