JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Police Communications Supervisor supervises, monitors, directs, and participates in the work of staff responsible for processing emergency, non-emergency and administrative calls; to ensure work quality in accordance with the mission and standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Supervises and coordinates Police Dispatcher shift work duties.
- Develops alternative strategies to address and resolve a variety of issues and problems.
- Ensures Dispatchers are accurately operating the two-way communications system in receiving, sending, and monitoring messages, while logging the information into a Communication Aided Dispatch System.
- Creates and maintains a Communications Training Manual.
- Direct and/or participates in the development of goals and objectives of the work area, and makes recommendations for changes in policies, rules and regulations in order to ensure effective operation.
- Monitor security radio and telephone network and perform dispatcher duties for security operations.
- Maintains log of security shift activities, accept requests for assistance and complaints by telephone and in person.
- Receives, relays, and records police alarms, other messages, and signals coming in over the police communication system; enters information into Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (ARMS).
- Broadcasts orders to police patrol units to investigate complaints or incidents and relays instructions and/or questions.
- Receives, transmits, and otherwise operates various communication devices and computerized information system.
- Maintains current frequency modulation checks for all cars and periodically checks to measure frequency modulation deviations of transmitters.
- Monitor closed circuit television system observing for behavior and activity that is disruptive, destructive, or criminal in nature and initiates appropriate responses.
- Serves as the CTO and is responsible for initial and remedial training of Dispatch personnel.
- Evaluates the Dispatcher's performance through quality assurance checks to ensure they are performing at or above a satisfactory level.
- Maintains a dispatch schedule to ensure adequate staffing.
- Quarterly reporting to the Dispatch Manager regarding any issues or recommendations for the Communications department.
- Performs other duties as required.
