JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Police Communications Supervisor supervises, monitors, directs, and participates in the work of staff responsible for processing emergency, non-emergency and administrative calls; to ensure work quality in accordance with the mission and standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Supervises and coordinates Police Dispatcher shift work duties.

2. Develops alternative strategies to address and resolve a variety of issues and problems.

3. Ensures Dispatchers are accurately operating the two-way communications system in receiving, sending, and monitoring messages, while logging the information into a Communication Aided Dispatch System.

4. Creates and maintains a Communications Training Manual.

5. Direct and/or participates in the development of goals and objectives of the work area, and makes recommendations for changes in policies, rules and regulations in order to ensure effective operation.

6. Monitor security radio and telephone network and perform dispatcher duties for security operations.

7. Maintains log of security shift activities, accept requests for assistance and complaints by telephone and in person.

8. Receives, relays, and records police alarms, other messages, and signals coming in over the police communication system; enters information into Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (ARMS).

9. Broadcasts orders to police patrol units to investigate complaints or incidents and relays instructions and/or questions.

10. Receives, transmits, and otherwise operates various communication devices and computerized information system.

11. Maintains current frequency modulation checks for all cars and periodically checks to measure frequency modulation deviations of transmitters.

12. Monitor closed circuit television system observing for behavior and activity that is disruptive, destructive, or criminal in nature and initiates appropriate responses.

13. Serves as the CTO and is responsible for initial and remedial training of Dispatch personnel.

14. Evaluates the Dispatcher's performance through quality assurance checks to ensure they are performing at or above a satisfactory level.
15. Maintains a dispatch schedule to ensure adequate staffing.
16. Quarterly reporting to the Dispatch Manager regarding any issues or recommendations for the Communications department.

17. Performs other duties as required.
