Production Manager – Handmade Ceramic Tile Studio
Location: On-Site Downtown Los Angeles | Full-Time
Our client, a Los Angeles-based e-commerce brand specializing in handcrafted tiles from around the world, is seeking a Production Manager to join its Product Development team.
This role focuses on the technical, logistical, and operational side of tile production, managing workflow, staffing, training, and materials usage. In this role, you will work closely with the team to ensure creative direction is implemented efficiently and accurately, and that production timelines and quality standards are met. This role also includes ordering raw materials and supplies to support ongoing production.
Primary responsibilities:
- Turn design concepts into clear, actionable production plans
- Create and manage weekly production schedules for custom and in-house tile lines
- Supervise daily studio operations: tile forming, editing, drying, glazing, and firing
- Train and manage production staff
- Track and order materials (clay, glaze, tools, and supplies)
- Maintain studio cleanliness, safety, and organization
- Troubleshoot technical challenges across tile making, drying, glazing, and firing stages
- Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs with Kiln Technician as needed
- Collaborate with team members on timelines, quality benchmarks, and production goals
- Maintain and update inventory
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in ceramic production or studio management
- Strong technical understanding of ceramic materials, tile-making methods, glaze, and firing processes
- Experience managing a team in a studio or production environment
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and high-volume production schedules
- Self-motivated, hands-on, and comfortable with physical work
- Working knowledge of kiln operations and firing schedules
- Experience with inventory or production tracking tools
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in tile or architectural ceramics production
- Bachelor of Fine Arts or Master of Fine Arts
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
