Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform dental cleanings, including the removal of plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth
- Conduct oral health assessments and record patient dental histories
- Take and develop dental X-rays as needed
- Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to help prevent tooth decay
- Assist the dentist during procedures such as exams, fillings, crowns, extractions, and other treatments
- Prepare and organize dental instruments, materials, and equipment for procedures
- Provide patients with oral hygiene education, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional guidance
- Offer post-treatment care instructions to ensure proper recovery and maintenance
- Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment following established infection control protocols
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized clinical environment, including treatment rooms and sterilization areas
- Ensure all instruments and equipment are functioning properly and safely
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and charting
- Welcome and prepare patients for treatment, ensuring comfort and clear communication
- Schedule appointments and manage front desk tasks when required
- Certification as a Dental Hygienist or Dental Assistant (as required by state regulations)
- Proficiency in taking dental X-rays and operating dental equipment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of dental software systems (preferred)
- Commitment to patient care and clinical excellence
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment
Certification:
- A degree or certificate in hygiene from an accredited program and a valid state license
- CPR/BLS Certification
- Ability to manage time efficiently
- Excellent verbal skills to communicate professionally with patients and staff
