We are seeking a meticulous HECM (Reverse) Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will ensure the thorough and accurate underwriting of residential loans in compliance with company policies, secondary market Investor standards, and all relevant laws. You will collaborate closely with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather and verify required documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review loan applications and associated documentation meticulously to ensure accuracy and adherence to HECM guidelines and company policies.
- Maintain efficient turn-around times for initial decisions and condition reviews as per department expectations.
- Collaborate with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding departments to resolve issues, assess risks, and address compliance concerns.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
- Adjust loan terms and identify additional conditions as necessary to ensure sound credit decisions.
- Evaluate borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, appraisals, and other relevant documents.
- Demonstrate proficiency in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
- Stay informed about secondary market activities and industry practices affecting underwriting quality and origination processes.
- Maintain strong relationships with loan originators, management, and processors to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Utilize MS Office products proficiently to support underwriting activities.
Required Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in Residential Loan underwriting.
- DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with various fraud detection tools.
- Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Prior experience in mortgage processing is advantageous.
- Experience with repurchase response and rebuttal review preparation is a plus.
- Proficiency in reporting, analysis, interpretation, and critical thinking skills.

Physical Environment: This position primarily operates remotely. A quiet home office and reliable internet access are required.
Travel: Occasional local travel may be necessary for company meetings, programs, or events.
