Senior Director of Data Science
South San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – 2–3 days/week)
Full-Time | Base Salary: $250–275k + Bonus (Total Compensation: $315–345k)

Team & Scope
You’ll manage a diverse team of 5 professionals, including:
- End-to-end Data Scientists (including one with engineering specialization)
- An Analytics Engineer
- A Data Science Analyst
The team currently owns deployment pipelines and collaborates closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing functions. Over time, the focus will shift increasingly toward research, rapid prototyping, and emerging AI applications.
What You’ll Be Doing
- 60% | Leading the team: coaching, strategic planning, roadmap execution
- 20% | Technical oversight: reviewing models, guiding architecture, QA
- 20% | Stakeholder communication: aligning with product, commercial, and technical leaders
Examples of Ongoing & Future Projects
- Foundational data model expansion for large-scale analytics
- Predictive models for patient adherence and insurance claim outcomes
- Recommendation systems for treatment pathways and product optimization
- Embedded ML-driven product features
- Conversational AI (e.g., retrieval-augmented chat interfaces)
- Prototyping next-gen agentic AI tools
- Analytics consulting for external healthcare partners
Ideal Candidate Background
Core Experience :
- 7+ years in data science or analytics (open to 5+ for standout candidates)
- 3+ years in commercial healthcare or biopharma analytics (or similar consulting background)
- Experience managing a technical team (3 or more direct reports)
- Deep fluency in Python (Pandas, PySpark) and SQL
- Applied ML experience: classification, regression, NLP, experimentation, etc.
Preferred Expertise :
- Experience with rare diseases, oncology, or other specialty therapies
- Familiarity with Snowflake, Airflow, and production data pipelines
- Prior roles in data-centric consulting or healthcare product teams
