Department Manager – Water/Wastewater Engineering
Location: Williamsville, NY
Our client is seeking a Department Manager to lead our Water/Wastewater Engineering Resource Group at our Williamsville, NY headquarters . This leadership role is essential in coordinating project work with our water/wastewater leaders and technical team. Key responsibilities include team scheduling, project coordination, resource management, technical training, quality assurance, and mentoring technical professionals . This role acts as the bridge between company management and technical project execution.

Responsibilities
As a Department Manager and Technical Lead , you will oversee medium to large-scale projects in water and wastewater treatment, storage, pumping, and distribution/collection systems while also managing the group’s operations.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship : Lead design efforts, mentor junior staff, and provide technical oversight on projects. While some construction experience is beneficial, a strong design background is essential.
- Client & Business Development : Serve as a trusted advisor to our established water and wastewater clients while supporting business development and securing new projects.
- Treatment Process Optimization : Analyze, diagnose, and implement improvements to water and wastewater treatment processes, including pretreatment, filtration, chemical disinfection, residuals management, and energy systems.
- Asset Management & Capital Planning : Conduct asset evaluations and develop long-term capital improvement plans.
- Hydraulic Modeling & System Analysis : Perform modeling of treatment processes and storage systems.
- Utility Support & Emergency Response : Provide expertise to utility staff in critical situations.
- Strategic Leadership : Represent the Water/Wastewater Group within Wendel and communicate corporate management objectives to the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental Engineering , or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 10+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering.
- Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software tools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and client meetings. Occasional overnight travel required.
- Strong leadership, management, and mentoring skills with the ability to work independently.
